Grays Ath celebrate after raising thousands through community share


Statement from Grays Athletic

"WE have been working with Supporters Direct ( ) on the creation of a supporter- owned and supporter-run Community Football Club. Following discussions with them, we agreed that we should aim to raise an initial minimum amount of £30,000 towards our running costs for the 2016-17 season, in order to demonstrate our financial viability to the Football Association and the Ryman League.

The Club is delighted to announce that our minimum target was met by the deadline of 31 July 2016. At that time, we had 171 adult members/ordinary shareholders and 22 child (under 16) members/ordinary shareholders. The total amount raised so far from members, including memberships and community shares is £44,050.

The Club would like to thank all those who have helped us reach – and beat – this important milestone.

We have been in regular contact with the FA, providing them with all the information they have requested, in order for them to approve the transfer of membership from Grays Athletic Football Club (1982) Ltd – the company that has been responsible for running the Club – to Grays Athletic Community Football Club Ltd, the new supporter-owned Club. The summer holidays have affected progress a little, but a decision is expected soon.

In the meantime, we would like to remind all supporters that as we stated in our share offer document, we hoped to raise up to £60,000 to put us in a really strong position and help us to plan our finances over a three-year period – not just for one season.

So, there is still some way to go and the Club would welcome more applications for membership/ordinary shares and community shares to help us achieve real sustainability over the next three years. You can also help the Club in many other financial ways by buying a season ticket, becoming a 12th Man Scheme member, sponsoring a player’s shirt and getting involved in social functions – the first of which is a Race Night on Saturday 6th August 2016 at The Ship, Dock Road, Little Thurrock, RM17 6EX, first race at 7.30pm.

We are not just asking you for money. We also need your help to run the Club on a day-to-day basis. Let us know if you have some spare time either on match days or at other times. We all need to work together to ensure that the Club can grow and become a major part of the sporting community in the area.
