STANFORD seconds pulled off an emphatic 10 wicket victory against promotion chasing local rivals Basildon and Pitsea on Saturday.
After losing the toss and being set 175 to win Stanford opening pair Alex Ellis and James Pearn put the home side to the sword with a mammoth partnership of 178 to seal victory in only the 30th over.
Ellis (84 not out) and Pearn (47 not out) were helped by 46 extras from the home side.
Earlier in the day Stanford debutant Nico Coetzee took 4-33 including two maidens and a wicket off his first ever ball for the club when he bowled Frank Farrington for 27.
Captain Drew Robinson was also impressive with 4-16 from 7.2 overs including the last wicket to bowl Basildon out in the last over of the innings.
The mainstay of Basildon’s innings was Stephen Parker with a patient 58.
The victory narrowed the gap to seven points between Stanford in fifth and Basildon in fourth with four games remaining and it all to play with Stanford now just one win away from a promotion spot.
