Grays man in court as woman and cops assaulted, dog stabbed to death and cops

A MAN has appeared in court today following an incident in Grays where a woman and two police officers were assaulted and a pet dog was killed.

Dean Popham, 30, of Wallace Road, Grays, who is unemployed, did not enter a plea and has been remanded in custody until Wednesday, September 14 when he will next appear before Basildon Magistrates Court.

The charges come after police were called to an address in Thames Road just after 12.35am on Sunday, September 4 following reports of a disturbance.

It was alleged a man had assaulted a woman and had kicked and stabbed a dog.

Officers attended and whilst detaining a man, two officers were assaulted.

The dog was found in a nearby car park and has since died.

Popham has been charged with assault by beating, causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal, assaulting a police constable in the execution of his duty and assault occasioning ABH on a Special constable.
