THURROCK and Great Wakering Rovers started the match level in the table on both points and goal difference but ninety minutes later a Charlie Stimson hat-trick and further goals from Glenn Poole and Jake Gordon saw Thurrock climb to 8th in the table.

Thurrock started at a high tempo and Ronnie Winn wins a corner inside the first minute, Glenn Poole finds Charlie Stimson who switches from his right foot to his left and shoots straight at Matt Belcher between the Wakering goalposts. But it wasn’t long before the first goal is chalked up. James Goode wins the ball and gives it to Ross Wall who in turn feeds Glenn Poole, a measured pass through to Ronnie Winn who teases his defender before finding Wall’s run. Wall takes a touch to control the ball and sets Stimson up to flick a header towards the far post, Belcher gets a touch before keeper and defender combine to clear off the line from Winn but only as far as Stimson again who controls on his chest before firing home inside the near post. [0-1]

Great Wakering probe forwards themselves but Junior Appiah is on hand to head an initial cross to safety and a minute later Reece Morgan cuts out a cross and it is Appiah again clearing the second cross before getting the ball into Stimson who puts the ball through the channel for Winn but his attempt to square the ball across the box is blocked.

Appiah is in action again clearing the lines before Winn is making a nuisance at the edge of the area and finding the eager Stimson who spins and gets a weak shot away. Wakering get the ball into Thurrock’s box again and this time it is debutante Rokas Janilionis heading clear to Joe Christou who brings the ball down the wing before passing to Stimson who sends in to Wall to win another corner. A towering header from James Goode to stop another Wakering move forwards finds Winn who ghosts past his man and skims Stimson’s head with his cross.

Thurrock patiently build another chance through Poole, Winn and Stimson before Joe Christou hits a net-busting volley from eighteen yards that Belcher somehow tips over the bar. Poole’s corner is headed out and Christou wins the race to touch back to Poole who one touches it back. Christou lets the ball run across his body onto his right foot before finding Stimson in yards of space to powerfully head home for the second goal. [

Reece Morgan wins the ball and travels box to box before his cross is cut out before Appiah puts in a tackle on the other wing and finds Wall who is too strong for his marker and finds himself with multiple choices before trying to lob Belcher but it doesn’t come off. Janilionis calmly clears two tentative crosses before Richard Halle steer a free kick to safety. A minute later Halle rises highest to power Poole’s free kick down towards Belcher’s feet but too close to the keeper to cause difficulty

Thurrock are still heavy on the loud pedal as Christou sends the ball in from the right wing to Winn at the back post, Winn heads back across the face of goal and Belcher can only watch rooted to the spot as the ball drifts wide of the far post. It is only delaying the inevitable though, Glenn Poole slices through the Wakering defence to get to the bye-line. Wall is wide open in the six yard box and Poole waits his moment to thread the ball through but Belcher is equal to the task to get a hand on the ball but isn’t equal to the fast reacting Stimson who charges in and bundles the ball over the line to complete a perfect left-right-head hat-trick.

Ross Wall gets to the edge of the area and twists himself into space to get a cross into Stimson but the ball carries slightly behind his target and Stimson is unable to generate any power. Wakering have their best spell and get to the bye-line with Janilionis cutting out the cross. Wakering break away from a Thurrock corner, James Goode busts a gut tracking back through the middle of the pitch and is in the exact correct spot to cut out the ball in the “D”. A few minutes later Wakering have their best chance to get on the score sheet, Goode gets a slight glance on a cross from the right and the ball lays up for a perfectly executed bicycle kick and Darren Behcet is perfectly placed to tip the ball over the bar.

In no mood to rest on their laurels Thurrock still press forwards, Morgan, Christou, Stimson and Wall give a demonstration in keeping the ball and leave Wakering chasing shadows before Wall sets up Poole twenty five yards out to shoot low into the corner of the net.

With ten minutes to go Ross Gleed and Jake Gordon come on to replace Stimson and Wall and are straight into action. Gleed holds the ball on the edge of the area before finding Winn out on the wing. Winn sends the ball over to Gordon but he can’t get a shot away. Jakub Berkowicz replaces Poole for the final five and in the final minute pounces on a short ball out from Belcher and nicks the ball off of Malaki Toussaint and gives it to Gordon, Gordon’s first effort is half smothered but there is no stopping the second shot. [

A well deserved comprehensive victory and a clean sheet resulting from a whole team effort.
