Football: Impressive victory for Tilbury

Ryman Div One North

Tilbury 4 v 1 Soham Town Rangers

TILBURY secured all the points with a blitz of goals in the first half as Soham lost their discipline just before the break.

Neil Richmond returned to the side and Tilbury gave a debut to Reece Conway following his recent signing.

Tilbury flew out of the blocks and took the lead on 8 minutes with a Neil Richmond tap home after a Tony Martin mishit cross. The same players were involved in the second goal on 19 minutes, with Richmond being brought down in the box and Martin scoring from the spot.

Following a number of further chances, Martin assisted the third from a corner, as leading scorer Eli Beniot smashed home when the ball was not cleared. The fourth coming on 32 minutes when a dangerous run saw Toby Aromolaran slip the ball through to Emiel Aiken to slot home. Richmond was in thick of the action and hit his effort just wide on 34 minutes . Just before the break Soham had a succession of corners, before they lost their discipline on half time. Emiel Aiken was brought down just outside the box and a free kick was awarded, but Soham’s captain Jordan Gent kicked out and was dismissed. As this was going on, striker Dubi Ogbonna was sighted by the referee for violent conduct and suffered the same fate.

With the two player advantage, Tilbury laid siege on a tired Soham side, which kept former Dockers keeper Clarke Bogard busy. He saved well at the feet of Aromolaran on 65 minutes , but it was Soham who scored the only goal of the second half when Marcus Hall ran into the box to slot home. Substitute Wale Odedoyin had the best chance for Tilbury in the second half when he looping header hit the upright. Soham’s keeper Bogard made another two fine saves late on, as Tilbury ran out winners.

The result sees Tilbury move up to 11th and travel to Cheshunt on Tuesday evening.
