FA Cup Second Qualifying Round
East Thurrock United 2 v 3 Whitehawk
Report courtesy of Terry Keating
A RAPID fire two goal burst midway through the second half turned a finely balanced FA Cup tie in Whitehawk’s favour.
The Brighton-based Hawks brought in former Eastleigh boss Richard Hill last week after a disappointing start to the season, and it was two of his midweek recruits from his former club who scored the goals.
Rocks started well, and took the lead on 15 minutes when James Walker turned in a Tom Wraight cross.
The visitors were back on terms ten minutes later through Reece Connolly.
Harry Honesty replaced Wraight at half time, and within four minutes the pacey striker burst through to fire Rocks back into the lead.
Classy Whitehawk fought their way back into the game, and Connolly levelled the score again on 67 minutes, followed quickly by a stunning strike on the turn by Jack Masterson to put Hawks noses in front.
Rocks missed two golden scoring opportunities later in the game, so it’s the Hawks who progress into the next round, picking up the £4,500 winners prize money from the FA.
