THE children at Arthur Bugler Primary School in Stanford-le-hope are enjoying a recent addition to their school in the form of a brand new state of the art sensory room.

This project was the result of the community coming together for the good of the children. It all started when a group of parents worked with Amanda Lewis (the school’s SENCO) to raise money in order to fund the construction and fit out of a sensory room.

After a year of fundraising Sarah and Ross Cooper (parents at the school) offered to financially support the project to ensure that the dream became a reality. Ross Cooper engaged the services of local builders Concept and Electricians BeOn electrical.

Ross Cooper said: ‘They are known locally for their quality work and perfectionism, it was a major coup when they agreed to offer their services and all of their labour for free, they also donated key items of equipment’.

After six weeks of hard work and some extra help in the form of donations of materials from local firms Benems Carpets & NU Drapes, the project has now been completed and the children who it was intended for are enjoying the facilities.

John Bryant (Headteacher) said: ‘This whole project has been amazing! I don’t think we will ever be able to express in words just how grateful we are. The whole process has restored my faith in a real community spirit – this has been one of the highlights of my career. My focus now is on ensuring we build on this momentum and success and start to focus on some of the other projects that we have in the pipeline’

Mrs Lewis expressed her heartfelt thanks to everyone involved especially Concept & Beon as they were professional throughout the whole process ensuring that the children could have the best sensory room possible, she commented ‘their work ethic and finished product is faultless, I can see how they have built a great reputation locally’.

Arthur Bugler Primary School is a school that prides itself on being ‘A great school at the heart of the community’ and it is stories like this that ensure this vision.
