East London truly capitalised on this and applied immense pressure . The Ts defence was impenetrable for the first 20 minutes. Captain CHARLOTTE ADNAMS produced an excellent performance and was inspirational to her team mates. The PLAYER OF THE MATCH was the Ts keeper which was clearly indicative of how this match was played! The first half Ts let in 3 goals . The half time talk was focused on keeping possession. This had a great affect and Ts only conceded one more goal against this strong opposition.MensMens 1’s lost 0-8 to East LondonMens 2’s lost 2-5 vs HaveringTHURROCK 3rd 3 BRAINTREE KNIGHTS 4Thurrock started strongly and forced the veterans side back into defence and after only 5 minutes Max Blake put them in the lead when he seized upon a rebound off the keeper and slotted the ball inside the near post. Thurrock maintained their dominance and 10 minutes later, Michael Fleming collected a pass from Tom Archer and made strong run into the area before hammering the ball past the advancing keeper. Thurrock continued to pile on the pressure and forced the keeper into a string of saves.A quickly taken hit out by the visitors sent the ball up the field to an unmarked attacker who had an unchallenged run which found the Thurrock keeper out of position and allowed an easy goal. This inspired Knights and they began to link passes together to test the Thurrock defence. Just before half time a free hit just outside the Thurrock D looked to be going off the back line but a speedy attacker managed to pull it back and it rebounded off a Thurrock stick inside the post to level the score. When two new players arrived Braintree were much stronger in the second half and penned Thurrock in their area cutting out most of their passes and soon claimed the lead from a well-taken short corner..Mid way through the half a mix up in the Thurrock defence left a Knights attacker unmarked and although keeper Mark Harvey saved the initial shot it rebounded to the same player who put it into the net. Braintree continued to claim the upper hand and only excellent defending prevented them adding to their score. In the final minute Thurrock were awarded a penalty corner and Dave Leeks hammered the ball to deflect off a defender’s stick past the keeper and into the net.
