Rugby: Thurrock pull off impressive away win at Fullerians

Fullerians 33 v 36 ThurrockTHURROCK first ever visit to Fullerian’s who are based in Watford ended in a bonus point win for the visitors, a result which looked unlikely for most of the game. Thurrock started off bright but soon found themselves on the back foot, conceding numerous penalties in the middle of the park.Direct from a penalty deep into the Thurrock territory a catch and drive from the line out proved to be Thurrock undoing as the visitors gave away a couple of penalties as they worked hard in defence, the referee lost patience and awarded the home side a penalty try, to take the lead 7-0 Thurrock quickly got back on terms as they gave the home side a dose of their own medicine with a catch and drive and it scrum half ALEX JONES who scored, TOM WORSFOLD kicked the conversion.But the home side used their big forwards to drive them on and Thurrock conceded 3 more tries, 2 of which were converted, adding a yellow card Thurrock were down to 14 men which the home side making Thurrock pay, TROY MICHIE try kept the visitors in the hunt with a well worked try, but leading up to the break they trailed 26-12.However, Thurrock ended the half looking much brighter and WORSFOLD added two late penalties to reduce the deficit to 26-18 at the break.Thurrock looked to continue to dominate at the start of second half but another converted try from the home side pushed them further in front and at 33-18 the game looked over for Thurrock.But they had different ideas, they worked space for FREDDIE RUSSO to score, then JAKE BARRAND added a drop goal to go past 400 1st XV points, and WORSFOLD kicked a long range penalty from fully 50 metres Thurrock were now trailing by only 4 points, new boy MARK REEVES was introduced for the closing 15 minutes as Thurrock continued to press and they pressed as the home side gave away a flurry of penalties as the visitors camped on the Fullerian’s line, the ref had no hesitation as in the opening moments, awarded THURROCK a penalty try WORSFOLD added the conversion from in front of the posts and the comeback was complete.
