Thurrock Council take step forward to promote healthy lifestyles

THURROCK Councillors have agreed the procurement of the Healthy Lifestyles Service at last night’s Cabinet meeting (12 October), which gives a new focus on early intervention to help prevent poor lifestyles.It brings together a number of different contracts which currently includes services like weight management, smoking cessation and NHS Health Checks.Cabinet agreed the provider of Healthy Lifestyles Services will work with the healthy family’s service provider, the council and schools to develop healthy living plans for children and young people.Portfolio Holder for Education and Health, Cllr James Halden, said after the meeting: “We want to make a concerted effort to turn around generational health issues from an early age. Healthy living plans are an important part of the newly refreshed Health and Wellbeing strategy.”We want to focus more resources at an earlier age and the Council is committed in working with public health providers in a smarter and more targeted way.”This goes hand in hand with the Council’s priority to take a more holistic approach to early intervention and prevention for young people.
