Football: Thurrock league form continues to underwhelm

Report courtesy of Thurrock FCTHURROCK dominated possession and the midfield in this game but weren’t able to take their chances and went down to two goals from set pieces.A free kick in the first couple of minutes is sent in by Ronnie Winn and flicked on to Charlie Stimson who swivels and shoots, Neil O’Sullivan gets down to palm the ball round the post for a corner. The corner bounces through to the far post only for Sam West’s shot to be blocked. James Goode wins the first of many tackles and gets the ball forwards for Ross Wall to flick on but Tevan Allen beats Stimson to concede a corner.Bury Town get a free kick and Josh Mayhew glances a header wide, Thurrock reply with Ronnie Winn bursting down the left wing and finding Wall with his square ball, Wall miscues and the ball runs wide. Jordan Clark’s turn to break up the play and ping the ball out to Michael Pindy, Pindy gets into the area and is pushed wide by O’Sullivan, Pindy still gets in a cross but it falls just behind Stimson. Connor Wheatley steps up to take a free kick just inside Thurrock’s half, Stimson and Wall challenge with the keeper, Pindy reacts quickest to the breaking ball but again a defender gets a foot to the cross and clears the ball away.Bury Town take the lead half way through the half, a free kick given away centre of pitch twenty five yards out and skipper Bradley Barber steps forwards and strokes the ball into the top corner. [1-0]. Minutes later and it should have been two, a direct ball out of defence finds Josh Mayhew who bears down on Wheatley’s goal, Wheatley is quickly out to the edge of his area and does enough to force Mayhew to shoot wide.Thurrock step up their efforts to get on even terms by half time, Sam West sends the ball diagonally across the field some forty yards inch perfect for Winn, Winn lays the ball back to Sutton who finds Stimson. Stimson leaves three defenders trailing as he jinks his way through the penalty area to the bye-line but the cross is cut out. Another strong challenge from Clark to win the ball and drive forwards and win a throw in. The throw comes to Sutton who is tripped at the edge of the area but the ref says no foul and the ball is half cleared to Clark who is also fouled, this time it’s given. A short touch and Clark shoots from distance but clears the bar. Ronnie Winn picks out Stimson who plays out to Pindy, Pindy skins his man and wins a corner. Winn sends in the corner and Richard Halle climbs highest to glance inches wide.Half Time: Bury Town 1 Thurrock 0Thurrock start the second half as they finished the first, Ronnie Winn is again marauding on the left wing and gets in a good cross that O’Sullivan has to palm away. Ross Wall heads the ball back to Clark who is tripped at the edge of the area. Richard Halle drills the free kick low and hard, gets the ball past the wall but also past the post.A long throw for Bury high up the pitch is caught by Wheatley who quickly throws to Pindy to carry the ball the length of the pitch getting away from five players in the process, the cross is cleared to Clark to find Wall but his shot curls wide. West gets a huge distance on his header out of defence, flicked on by Wall to Pindy who again beats his man and sends the ball to the far post, Winn gets his head to the ball but it is too high for him to get a good connection. Thurrock clear from defence again and Wall finds Sutton overlapping and his cross beats everyone and goes behind for a goal kick.
