Ryman Div One North
Tilbury 0 v 0 AFC Hornchurch
Play off hopefuls shared a goalless draw as the sides keep in touch with the top 5.
On a chilly afternoon at Chadfields, both sides defensive records showed it would be a tight affair and it lived up to expectations. The visitors started and finished the game well, with Tilbury dominate for a good spell after half time.
The visitors Leon McKenzie hit over from 18 yards midway through the half. Abs Thompson had numerous runs through the half where he whipped in some good crosses in from the right, but no one to finish. Before the break Kurt Smith and Reece Hewitt had efforts.
Tilbury looked the stronger side after the break with Lewis Jaggs seeing his long range effort go just over on 49, before Tilbury’s defender Conor Mead cleared off the line, and Tilbury keeper Lee Butcher made two fine saves in as many minutes to keep Tilbury in the game from efforts from Gary Cohen and Kenzer Lee. In the final 4 minutes Hornchurch had a good period which saw Leon McKenzie see his blistering effort well saved by Butcher. The final action of the game saw Cohen head wide. The whistle went to see a fair draw.
The sides remain 7th and 8th in the league and leaves both just outside the play off positions.
After game Assistant Manager Danny Smith commented ” It was a hard fought point against a play off rival. It was nice to have clean sheet after the poor defensive show last week at Haringey Borough”
