ONE Community Development Trust in Tilbury has been nominated for the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Services (QAVS) for their work in the local area.
The group provides help to anyone who needs it about any problem – from benefits, jobs, mentoring, family issues, joining a credit union and running community events to bring people together. They find a way to help and no one is turned away.
The prestigious award is a national honour for volunteer groups equivalent to an MBE – since it was started in 2002 to mark the Queen’s Golden Jubilee, over 600 groups in England have been granted the honour.
The team from One Community Development Trust, along with the other nominees, were honoured at a reception held at Essex County Hall on 3 November.
Cllr Sue MacPherson, Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhoods, said: “I want to congratulate the group on being nominated for this esteemed award. I’m sure the whole team are proud to have been bestowed this honour – and rightly so.
“When groups such as One Community Development Trust are recognised in this way, it highlights the great work they do as well as the tremendous community spirit there is in Thurrock.”
