ON Thursday 10 November intu Lakeside handed over a £25,000 cheque to its chosen charity of the year Brainwave.
The fun-filled cheque handover took place at the Christmas Village and the families that attended shared lots of joy and laughter whilst having the chance to be the first to skate at intu Lakeside’s first ever ice rink, which doesn’t publicly open until Saturday 12 November. You can find the Christmas Village and ice rink in car park 3 at intu Lakeside.
To raise the donation money, intu Lakeside held many fundraising activities, including a tea for the Queen’s birthday, an in-centre bake off and a lost property auction. Money was also raised from a raffle at the centre’s retailer awards, and autographs from well-known celebrities were donated to Brainwave to be auctioned off too. Members of staff even raised additional funds through participating in sporting events such as cycle marathons and triathlons to raise the £25,000.
The dedicated team at Brainwave helps change the lives of children aged 0-12 years living with a range of disabilities. By using a tailored cognitive and physical therapy programme Brainwave is able to help children reach their potential and personal targets. The money has been used to sponsor seven children from the charity, making it possible to make a difference to their lives. The seven children being sponsored are:
All seven children come from Essex and Kent and have a wide range of conditions including Down’s Syndrome, Global Development Delay, Epilepsy and problems with sensory processing and rare genetic conditions that impact their development.
Ben Leeson, Marketing Manager at intu Lakeside, commented: “Brainwave is an amazing charity and we are honoured to have worked with them as our charity of the year. Here at intu Lakeside we are more than thankful for all the work Brainwave do and hope our donation can help in supporting and changing the lives of many more children.”
