Facebook page for Thurrock jobs launched

A FACEBOOK page has been launched to help local residents to see the many job opportunities that are available across Thurrock. It aims to bring different jobs networks from across the borough together in one place to make job hunting easier.

The idea for ‘Jobs at Opportunity Thurrock’ came from a partnership of private and public sector organisations and has been supported by Thurrock Council.

Many businesses were reporting that they had vacancies which were hard to fill while many local residents were unaware the opportunities existed.

The Facebook page seeks to bring the two together. Jobs at Opportunity Thurrock is open to businesses and organisations of all sizes across the borough to post adverts for positions.

Following the success of the Opportunity Thurrock careers fair for those at secondary school and college, this jobs network will help more people in the borough find work and for those that already have a job to perhaps find a new job.

The page is designed to simplify the process for job seekers to find work and the council have been working with the borough’s biggest employers to find the best talent on offer.

Cllr Mark Coxshall, Portfolio Holder for Regeneration, welcomed the innovation: “This is an exciting time for career opportunities in Thurrock. The number of businesses already in the area, as well as those who are soon to arrive, show that this borough is very much open for business.

“With Amazon and UPS, an extra 3,000 jobs will be available and we want to make it as easy as possible for local residents to take advantage of the great opportunities in Thurrock.

“Whether you are looking for a career or a new member of the team, employers and job seekers alike should like us on Facebook and get involved.”

Simon Harper, Training and Development Manager at Port of Tilbury, said: “This page has been a collaboration between the private sector, Thurrock Council and education providers, which shows the joined up work of the Economic Skills Partnership is having a positive impact.

“At The Port of Tilbury we know the importance of connecting local people to local jobs, social media is a great way of promoting the many opportunities Thurrock offers to a wider audience.”
