THE project to widen a section of the A13 took an important step forward last week. At the meeting (14 December) of Thurrock Council’s Cabinet, councillors agreed that contracts for detailed design and construction can be awarded once the formal decision from the Department for Transport has been received.

The A13 between the Orsett Cock and A1014 Manorway junctions will be widened from two lanes in each direction to three – to improve the flow of current traffic and meet the demand of planned investment in the area. Works are due to commence in Autumn 2017.

Portfolio Holder for Highways and Transportation, Cllr Brian Little, said: “We are delighted that following the extensive work building the business case, as well as engineering and environmental surveys, these long awaited works are progressing.

“Thurrock’s logistics industry is thriving and we must support them with the right infrastructure. This road enhancement will improve, for residents and businesses, the current traffic flow to better cope with future demand.

“Local residents and businesses will be fully informed throughout every stage as these improvement works progress.”
