Athletics: Thurrock Harriers keep up the pace over Christmas

thurrock-harriersPARK Runs and the Crown to Crown fun run fulfilled the competitive needs of the Harriers endurance squad over the Christmas season.

Top run came from Alec Finch who comfortably won the Crown to Crown Boxing Day event. Amazingly 300+ runners turned up at Westley Heights for this annual affair. Alec dominated from the start and won by some distance with a excellent time of 16m27.

Joe Logan also produced a top performance in 7th place with 19m.

Other Thurrock finishers shaking off the affects of Christmas over indulgence were:
9th Jack Exley 19m25, 10th Ben Prior 19m29, 11th Taylor Ewell 19m36, 16th Oliver Mann 19m55, 18th Harry Parker 19m57, 23rd Dylan Harrod 20m15, 25th Hayley Instance 20m19, 36th Gary Cahill 21m46, 49th Gary Rowlatt 22m42, 54th Nigel Instance 23m02, 71st Bernie Johnson 23m55, 73rd Harry Tobin (9) 24m01, 181 Pat Dobbs 30m15.

Best Park Run effort came from Toby Draper in the Basildon event where he was second with a time of 18m51. In the Thurrock event Nick Trencher produced a good pb of 19m16.

This weekend is “Day Two” of the County Cross Country Championships.

The under 17 and under 20 men’s teams field strong squads. If they can find the elusive 4th member they can contend for medals. The senior ladies have Gemma Holloway and Joanne Wilkinson in their line up both of whom will be expecting to make the county team. With strong support from the regulars they can compete for team medals.
