THURROCK Council is aware of a fire at East Tilbury library in the early hours of Friday morning (6 January).
Cllr Sue MacPherson, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, and Mike Tarbard, Chairman of Bata Heritage Centre, have visited the library and have been talking to concerned residents.
Officers from the council’s environment and libraries teams are onsite, assisting Essex County Fire and Rescue Service and Essex Police in their investigations.
Thurrock Council is working with the Bata Heritage Centre to do what we can to help with the Bata collection and with the police to find those responsible.
Council officers will assess the damage once it is safe to do so.
