A BITTER war of words broke out in the chamber after Thurrock UKIP and Labour councillors voted down a number of proposals to change council tax payments for the residents on low income.
In many ways, it was an ideological battle between a Conservative plan to support all aspects of the budget with a concern expressed by both UKIP and Labour that too many sections would involve a “tax on the working poor”.
The debate became bitter when the grant to the Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) became involved, some believing that the possible grant of £50,000 was being used as a “bargaining chip”.
