A DRIVER has been disqualified for six months and fined £490 for providing false details to police after being pulled over in Leigh-on-Sea.
Okobiriba Sam-Warmate, of Burns Place, Tilbury, appeared at Colchester Magistrates Court on Wednesday, January 11, for failing to give information relating to the identification of a driver.
Sam-Warmate was stopped by officers along the A127 Southend Arterial Road on October 25, 2015, for travelling at excess speed in a 40mph zone.
He received a written notice informing him that Essex Police would be prosecuting him, but he failed to reply.
Officers then carried out detailed checks on Sam-Warnate’s vehicle, a Renault Laguna, and police found he had falsely registered the car to an address in Glasgow.
Once he was subsequently brought to court Sam-Warmate also fraudulently tried to have penalty points endorsed on a licence belonging to a fictional individual from Sheffield, as the points he was given at court – in addition to those he already had on his licence – would have meant he would be automatically disqualified.
Sam-Warmate was ordered to pay costs of £620 and a £49 victim surcharge.
Adam Pipe, Essex Police’s Casualty Reduction Manager, said: “Sam-Warmate provided false information and failed to reply back to his prosecution notice with the hope that we would not take action – he was wrong.
“He tried to send us on a merry-go-round by providing fake information relating to people and places across the UK.
“This sentence sends a strong message that we will always investigate and bring those trying to manipulate the system to justice.”
