Rugby: Thurrock back to winning ways

Old Priorians 24 v 52 Thurrock

THE positive vibe was back in the side and confidence grew in an 8 try bonanza for the visitors. Against an opposition who have always given Thurrock trouble were swept away making sure they did not suffer their 4th consecutive defeat.

The conditions were perfect and Thurrock adapted perfectly to a narrow pitch, as expected the opening quarter was tentative but nerves were settled as Thurrock opened the scoring Charlie Russo went over from a catch and drive, Jake Barrand added the conversion for a 7-0 lead which they fully deserved as the game approached half time the last 5 minutes was a scoring spree as Thurrock ran 3 tries to earn a bonus point before the break, Trent White, Kye Holloway and

Fraser Kidd all went over and Barrand added 2 more conversions for 24-0 but there was still time for the home side to come back, first a converted try and then a penalty following a yellow card offence made it 24-10 at half time.

The home side scored first after the break as Thurrock were down to 14 men for the first 10 minutes to close the gap to 24-17 and a further re-shuffle after injuries to Holloway and Charlie Currie but it urged Thurrock on as further tries came from Andrew Nimmo, Joss Nunn, Nathan Farrell and Rhys Collins all converted by Barrand. The home side did score between the 7th and 8th try to keep Thurrock up to their work and they had the best of the last couple of minutes hunting for a 4th try to rescue a bonus point, but Thurrock defence held firm and record a deserved win
