THE mayor of Thurrock, cllr Cathy Kent, took part in the Thurrock parkrun on Saturday and encouraged all local residents to do the same.
Madam mayor received a warm reception as she was introduced to the assembled group of runners who take part in the weekly 5k (3.1 mile) run around Orsett Heath.
The mayor then took off and ran a very creditable 33 mins and 15 secs.
Afterwards, cllr Kent said: “I really enjoyed it and would like to thank the organisers of the Thurrock parkrun for making me most welcome.
“I would encourage everyone to come down and take part. You can do it at your own pace. There are no winners or losers. Just participants doing something healthy.
