THURROCK Council is taking legal action after two unlawful encampments have appeared in Thurrock.

Gammon Field

One is on the Gammon Field off the Stanford Road and another in Orsett.

A council spokesperson said: “Thurrock Council is aware of a number of unauthorised encampments which appeared yesterday (Friday 28 April).

The council is working with Essex Police and will support their action.

“In parallel and in line with our usual process, we have alerted ECTU (Essex County Wide Traveller Unit) who visited the sites and will progress the encampments through the usual legal process should the Police be unable to use Section 61 powers”.

  1. Just before a bank holiday again when they know nothing can be done for a few days. Why do the council and police get in straight away and get them moving. You can bet that they will not be prosecuted for any rubbish left on these sites although the council will know who the travellers are.
