BELHUS paceman Connor Day achieved personal best bowling figures of 6-16 with all his victims being bowled in this first round National Village Cup match at Matching Green on Sunday. Day claimed three wickets inside four deliveries in his second over and significantly contributed to the hosts’ collapse to 35 for seven wickets after just twelve overs. Earlier, brothers Danny and Joe Joyce put on 139 for the first wicket with Danny falling just two runs short of a century, having struck eleven fours and one six. Joe hit 66, with thirteen boundaries, including one maximum. Belhus now meet Horndon on the Hill at North Stifford in the second round, on Sunday 14th May, 1pm start. Spectators welcome.
Westcliff on Sea 115 all out
Belhus secured a comfortable Shepherd Neame Essex League cup win over Westcliff at North Stifford on Saturday. The two undefeated and untroubled batsmen were Danny and Joe Joyce, with 69 and 41 respectively. Earlier, Connor Day picked up three wickets and a cost of just 17 runs from his eight over allocation, while Martin Guilbert, Bradley Mason and Joe Joyce picked up two wickets apiece. Belhus now face another home time this coming Saturday, when they entertain Hutton in the second round at North Stifford, 12.30pm start.

Westcliff on Sea 2nd 185 all out
Wayne Read and George Maidment were the mainstays of a good Belhus batting performance at Chalkwell Park on Saturday. Opening batsman Wayne Read was eventually trapped leg before having made 75, while George Maidment struck a stylish 78. For the home side, Baker claimed 3-32 from seven overs.
Imran Mohammed and Zak Wilson collected three wickets each as Ekanayake and Waller struck 44 and 42 for Westcliff. Despite Hewitt’s valiant knock of 24 at number ten, Belhus secured a 40-run win.
