Report by Orsett and Thurrock Cricket Club
ON a sunny day at Hadleigh, Orsett and Thurrock lost the toss and were asked to field first. Hadleigh got off to an excellent start and were 65-0 off 10 overs due to some loose bowling.
Bennett and Sultan bowled excellently to slow Hadleigh’s run rate down. Both bowlers bowling their allotted 10 overs for less than 4 an over and Sultan picking up one wicket. Some good batting from smith and handley as well as a quick knock at the end of the innings took hadleigh up to 263/6 off their 50 overs.
In reply Orsett and Thurrock were off to a poor start losing wickets at regular intervals taking them to 70/4 off 15 overs. This sparked an excellent partnership from Mark Pavitt and Nawaz Jan both reaching their 50s and taking their team back into the game.
Needing 110 off the final 20 overs Nawaz was run out by an excellent piece of fielding. Wickets then started to tumble along with Orsett and Thurrock’s chances of winning the game.
They were finally bowled out for 228 losing the game by 35 runs. Hadleigh took 20 points from the game whilst OATCC only picked up 5.
Orsett and Thurrock will play South Woodford at home next week and look to improve after a disappointing run of games.
