VOLUNTEERS in Thurrock were recognised for their dedication and hard work at a special event on Wednesday (14 June), hosted by the Mayor of Thurrock, Cllr Tunde Ojetola.
The event, which took place during Volunteers Week, celebrated members of the community who go the extra mile in their daily lives to ensure the smooth running of services for residents such as in schools and children’s centres.
Volunteers were invited to meet the Mayor to talk about the excellent work they do. Each volunteer was awarded a certificate to say a big thank you for all their hard work and contribution to the borough.
Mayor of Thurrock, Cllr Tunde Ojetola said: “Today is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the excellent work being carried out by volunteers. We fully appreciate the value they bring to many services and to many aspects of life across the borough.
“Last year alone Thurrock Council involved 345 volunteers in supporting services, which is a fantastic achievement. I am pleased that my inaugural event is celebrating the unsung heroes of Thurrock which is what I am determined to do this year.
We have volunteers in libraries, the Thurrock Museum and heritage services, helping at community events, and in youth services. Thank you to everyone who works so hard to make the borough a better place for everyone.”
