Old Brentwoods 1st Xi 165ao v Horndon 1st xi 169-9
HORNDON’S 1st eleven travelled to fellow strugglers Old Brentwood’s on Saturday. With confidence high from last week’s triumphs Horndon won the toss and chose to Bowl. Old B’s started well putting on 40 before opener R Gunalan fell to Dan Stone, fellow opener Ahmed soon followed by a smart Catch from Marson off of the impressive Harry Morgan-James. Horndon continued to take wickets with every chance being taken in the field.
When Old Brentwood’s main Man Baber Choudhary was bounced out by Steve Edwards Horndon took charge. Despite the home side’s tail putting in a good effort Old Brentwood’s were bowled out for a below par 165, skipper Jeff West Jnr taking another 4 wickets. In reply Mo Asif was called into the action earlier than expect when opener Tom Stone left a straight one and was bowled on 4. Asif and Walsh put on 61 before Walsh had a rush of blood and was bowled by Gunalan. A middle order collapse and Horndon looked in trouble before Sayers steadied the ship and supported the impressive Asif.
The partnership didn’t last as Sayers fell to Choudhary and Horndon were left struggling on 115-6. Mike Canavon continued to support the brilliant Asif (89) until he was dismissed by a fine catch on the boundary with still 26 required. Marson joined the cautious Edwards at the crease and got the visitors to within 6 before he was ran out on 15. Harry Morgan-James joined Edwards and quick running and a valuable wide ball got the visitors to 165. With 1 to win Morgan-James brilliantly pulled Kalim Kahn to the boundary for the win and 20 points, to give Horndon some breathing space from the bottom of the table.
Horndon 2nd xi 150-0 v Old Brentwoods 2nd xi 149ao
Horndon 2nds continued their winning streak to 8 games at the Rec on Saturday. The home teams bowling was just too good for Old Brentwoods as they dismantled them to 149 all out. Dave Cracknall picking up 3 wickets with Wills and Laurie picking up two apiece. Just as the bowlers, the batters continued their fine form this season. Openers Rob Hutcherson 60* and Danny Freeman 76* chased the total with ease keeping them firmly at the top of the table.
Horndon 3rd xi 166-5 v Stanford 3rd xi 163-9
Winning the toss and electing to field Horndon restricted neighbours Stanford to 163-9. Stanford openers Copp & Kumar started well but there was little resistance otherwise. Jack Outten picked up 3 wickets and Brady, Collis and Patmore picked up 2 each. Horndon lost their top 3 quickly but the total was never enough. Challis 47 and Witts 65* steadied the ship and the home team chased the total in only 29 overs.
Orsett 5xi 177-3 v Horndon 4thxi 176-4
Despite a tremendous 105 not out from Harry Philpot Horndon’s 4th string could not make it a clean sweep of all teams this weekend. The visitors posted 176-4 which a strong Orsett side chased down in 34 overs. Opener Bradley Greene finishing 89 not out.
