Dancing success for Thameside Primary School
PUPILS from Thameside Primary School were ecstatic to receive gold medals at the Thurrock Schools Sports Partnership Dance competition that was held at the Thameside Theatre. The children had to perform against other schools across Thurrock. Their performance was inspired by conflict as the pupils had been studying the Nutcracker and focused on the battle scenes. The pupils worked hard to include choreographic elements such as; canon, unison, gesture and use of space. Recent events across the world are quite hard for children to understand and the pupil’s dance was a reflection of what the children came to as their conclusion – that there is never any real winner in conflict and wars throughout the world, only suffering.
Teacher and dance squad coach Kirstie Hatton said that “the pupils worked very hard to put together an original and powerful dance piece. The squad ranges from year 3 to year 6 and it was wonderful to see their commitment and passion-attening after school rehearsals. It Is fantastic that they have won their first ever dance competition!”
