THURROCK’S Contact the Elderly has received a £250 boost from The Port of Tilbury to support their community tea parties for older people who live alone in the local area.
Contact the Elderly organises volunteer-led afternoon tea parties for older people across the community who live alone. The Thurrock group have recently celebrated their first anniversary with a special afternoon tea. The social event is open to everyone who lives alone in the community and the volunteers from Contact the Elderly pick up people and bring them to a central point for tea parties.
Aileen Long from the Port of Tilbury presented the group with the cheque for £250 at the recent afternoon tea party of Pimms and strawberries plus homemade food made by one of the volunteers (see pic).
Aileen said: “We are proud to support Contact the Elderly in Thurrock who provide a social gathering for people living alone in the community. We hope our contribution will help the group to continue their fantastic work that they do.”
