START-up social entrepreneurs living in Thurrock are encouraged to submit their application forms as soon as possible if they wish to join the new School for Social Entrepreneurs East programme starting this September.
The programme fully funded by Thurrock Council, will give 16 start-up social entrepreneurs the opportunity to learn from established and successful, local social enterprises as well as business professionals including accountants, lawyers and marketeers.
Digby Chacksfield, Chief Executive of the School for Social Entrepreneurs East, said: “The response to the programme has been very positive. With Thurrock being the home of several established social enterprises, delivering the programme from here made perfect sense.
“People who attend our courses have ranged in age from 18 – 65 and come from diverse cultural backgrounds. We believe the individual’s passion for change is what matters most, not where they come from or their academic qualifications.”
Two social entrepreneur guest speakers on the programme are Rob Groves, Friends of Hardie Park Director and Neil Woodbridge, CEO of Thurrock Lifestyle Solutions.
Rob Groves said: “We know from our Soup events that there are many social entrepreneurs living in Thurrock. This programme will be great for them as it will enable the students to develop their own peer network who share their enthusiasm for helping and supporting the local community.”
Neil Woodbridge said: “Meeting the guest speakers will give the cohort the chance to fully understand what makes a successful entrepreneur.
“Not only will they hear about the hard work and the successes but they’ll also learn more about the challenges and the pitfalls people have encountered on their journey to launching their social enterprises.”
The programme, due to start in September 2017, runs for 18 days over 12 months and will be delivered from venues including the Thurrock Adult Community College, Richmond Road, Grays.
