Thurrock Council Mayor sends condolences to Barcelona

IN a mark of respect and solidarity for the horrific attacks in Barcelona on 17 August, Thurrock Council has today lowered its flags to half-mast.

Mayor of Thurrock, Cllr Tunde Ojetola, has also written to the Mayor of Barcelona to express ‘deepest condolences on behalf of the people of Thurrock’.

The full letter is below.

Mayor Ada Colau

Mayor of Barcelona

Dear Madam Mayor,

I am writing to express deepest condolences on behalf of the people of Thurrock following the barbaric attacks on your city.

The incidents at Las Ramblas and Cambrils on 17 August were truly horrific to witness. The families of those who lost their lives as well as all those affected remain in our thoughts and prayers.

I’m sure you are doing all that you can to support those affected and Thurrock stands ready to provide any assistance we can. The emergency services that attended the scenes and continue to support people are heroic.

While Thurrock and Barcelona are not close neighbours geographically, what joins us closely together is our determination to fight evil in all its forms.

Thurrock stands in solidarity with the people of Barcelona during this heart-breaking and difficult time.

Yours sincerely,

Cllr Tunde Ojetola
Mayor of Thurrock
