THURROCK Adult Community College is once again celebrating the achievements of their adult learners who received outstanding GCSE results this week. Maths students achieved 85% and English students achieved 67% overall (A* to C), with a third of the latter achieving A or A* grades.
This is a huge achievement, not only when compared to the national average for legacy GCSEs across the sector but also considering these adult learners studied their subjects over just 30 weeks while juggling work and family lives! Each amazing learner has a personal story that makes their result extra special.
This summer was the final opportunity for adults learners to sit the older version of GCSEs (graded A* – G). Out of the 149,537 students across the UK who sat the legacy exams this summer, TES has published national averages of 24% for maths and 29% for English, for those achieving a grade C or above.
Di Laver, TACC’s Curriculum Manager for English and maths said “I am so pleased for all the learners who have worked so hard”.
Jaki Bradley, College Principal, is delighted with the results and would like to congratulate all the adult learners on their excellent results plus commended tutors on their dedication. Learners who were able to collect their results in person on this year’s results day also thanked the college and tutors, with one saying the “support given was outstanding” and another, Sarah Gowlett, commenting “thank you for the experience, I have enjoyed every minute of every lesson, made new friends, which is a real bonus. It’s made me so hungry for education – like a hungry baby!”
The next Cohort of free GCSE English and maths courses (under the new, linear format graded 9 to 1) are due to start on 12th and 13th September (daytime and evening available).
