Football: Late show wins it for Aveley

Aveley FC 3

Bostik North

Aveley 2 v 1 Witham Town

TWO very late goals ensured Aveley all three points at Parkside on Friday night.

Witham must have thought they had all three points after Elliot Ronto scored in the 78th minute.

But goals by Jack West and Jordan Watson in injury time won the game for Aveley.

The result leaves Aveley in sixth place equal on points with the leaders.

The Millers return to action at home on September 9th at home against Heybridge Swifts.

Full report to follow.

  1. An enjoyable game, enjoyed by another big crowd, Witham looked the more composed as they were given room to play, defensive frailties led to the Witham goal, but after the substitutions of West and Watson saw Aveley move up a gear, for me West (after an effortless game v Bowers) winning his first header of the season which ended in with equalising goal, the introduction of Watson was a master card he livened up the Aveley effort with some forceful running at the Witham defence and his tenacity paid off when he got on the end of a West flicked header to smash the ball home.

Still a work in progress but better.

A deserved victory should see the crowds keep coming to Parkside.

Liked the programme notes on travel to the next away game at Grays Ath on Monday, leave Parkside turn left to the roundabout take the 4th exit, turn right into Parkside you have arrived at the ground. Grays Ath of course share the Aveley’s Parkside home.
