Prokit UK Essex Olympian League Round-up – Saturday 26th August

EOFL2

Senior Challenge Cup

The showcase Challenge Cup Final pitted last season Premier Division Champions Springfield, against last season’s Senior League Cup and Division One Titlists Basildon Town. After normal time and extra time couldn’t separate the two teams meant that it went to penalties. In an incredible shoot=out Basildon Town ended up winning 13-12.

Premier Division

Catholic United made a successful Premier Division debut beating local rivals Leigh Ramblers 2-0. Goals from Mike Trenkel and Dan Trenkel made it a dream start for the new boys. Bishops Stortford Swifts made a winning start recording a 3-1 win over May & Baker E.C. Mark Nougher, Lee Samways and Joe McEvoy provided the goals. Harold Wood Athletic also won their opening game 3-1 as Robert Whitenall bagged a brace with Dan Gillard notching the other. Connor Barnby scored the White Ensign consolation. Beko Dushku and Mark Argent were the Canning Town scorers in a 2-2 draw with Manford Way. Meanwhile Kelvedon Hatch and Frenford, two teams you might expect to see near the top of the table come the business end of the season,  started their campaigns sharing a point from a goalless draw.

Division One

Buckhurst Hill dropped down from the Premier Division last season but started the new season with a 3-1 win at Runwell Sports. Dawood Ghafar, Josh Banfield and Tyriquee Soloman were the marksmen. Old Southendian opened the season with a 2-1 win over Old Chelmsfordians, while FC Hamlets and Great Baddow played out a goalless draw.

Division Two

Benfleet began the season with a handsome 10-2 win over Ryan. Ongar Town also picked up three points but only needed a solitary goal to overcome Toby. Anthony Driscoll and Steve Paoletti notched a goal apiece in Ramsden Scotia’s 2-1 win over Rochford Town. The hosts scored their reply via Steve Sharp. The other game in the division featured a clash between Rayleigh Town Res. who moved up from Division Three against a Newham United outfit that were coming down from Division One. Alex Witham, Ricky Gill, Joe Pyne were the Rayleigh scorers, with Nick Read, Omar Jomanday and Yuan Zahui doing likewise for Newham United.

Division Three

White Ensign Res. hammered Old Chelmsfordians Res. 8-0 with Ben Forsyth having a dream debut as he went on to score a hat-trick. James Nolan (2), Perry Osborne, Conor Wells and Daniel Gilbey also notched goals in the rout. Leigh Town started life in the Olympian League with a 2-0 win at Frenford Res. Brodie Horne and Nick Judd provided the goals. Beacon Hill Rovers meanwhile lost their opening Olympian League game at Debden Sports. Rene Bearman scored the Beacon Hill goal but they shipped 4 at the other end.

Division Four

Chingford Athletic opened their season with an 8-0 annihilation of Canning Town Res. Eric Kelly started his first game for the hosts and duly notched his first hat-trick of the season. Will Gleeson, Louis Bollard, Gary Murray and Alexandru Petrache also put their names down on the score sheet, with Canning Town even gifting their opponents an own goal along the way. Joe Reynard and Alberto Ordonez were the Galleywood Res. scorers in a 5-2 defeat at Epping. The hosts saw Liam Fitch and Duane Miller both bag braces with Albi Gibbs completing the Epping scoring. Michael Ryder scored twice for Old Barkabbeyans Res. as they went on to beat Basildon Town Res. 4-2. Tola Israel and Mohamed Ali were the other scorers. Southend Sports drew 2-2 with Toby Res. with Ryan Wyatt and a Kyle Poxon penalty providing the Southend goals with Toby’s replies being scored by Richie Harvey and David Major.

Division Five

James Butler got his season off to a flyer as he scored a hat-trick in Dagenham United’s 4-0 win over Old Barkabbeyans Res. Jay Shittu was the other scorer. Louis Mansell was the Academy Soccer scorer in a 1-1 draw with Westhamians, who replied via Tommy Kavaz.

U21 Division

There was an unbelievable goal fest at Buckhurst Hill who won a thrilling game against Westhamians 9-4. Richard Akinlade showed incredible goal scoring attributes as he went on to notch five goals. Cam Ovel added a further two with Oliver Williams and Dapo Osinuga also providing goals. Westhamians replied via a Jordan Beckers brace, plus a goal apiece for Jack Murray-Sharpe and Daniel Munroe. Goals from Sam Jones and a left foot rocket from Reece Brandon helped Old Southend beat Billericay Town Colts 2-1. Joao Massaala scored the Billericay reply. Ongar Jubilee made a winning bow in the U21 Division beating last season’s runners-up Corinthians 3-2.
