Gateway Academy raise over £800 for MacMillan Cancer Care

STAFF, parents, pupils and students in the GLC joined together to raise in excess of £870 for Macmillan Cancer Care, as part of a trust-wide support for a worthwhile charity.

Each GLC Academy held coffee sessions and sold homemade cakes, all accompanied by a nice cuppa!

The Gateway Academy even welcomed visitors into their coffee morning session who were attending to tour the premises, as part of their September & October tours every Friday morning. Year 9 cookery students also made a variety of breakfast muffins including blueberry, banana, bacon, cheese and sausage to help raise funds. Food Technology teacher,

Miss Surraya Constable, said “They worked really well as a team and were excellent at encouraging staff and students to donate and make purchases through break and lunch. They also hosted a game to guess how tall the cake in the picture was to further raise money. Well done to the winners Miss Whitbread and Year 7 Pride College student, Jayda. The students raised £50!”

Mr Kevin Sadler, CEO of the GLC, said “As Macmillan Cancer Care relies on fundraising for 97% of their income, it is a very worthwhile cause that the GLC are happy to take part in every year. We are delighted to surpass our fundraising from last year and hope this increases year on year.”
