GOOD progress is being made on the new Aveley Community Hub, as the development moves closer to being able to provide vital services to the community.
The report which will be presented by Portfolio Holder for Regeneration, Cllr Mark Coxshall, next week (Wednesday 13 December) will give an update on the progress, consultation and design, as well as outlining the next steps.
The expected design of the building will include a hall, common room and youth centre along with office space, reception areas with a self-serve library facility as well as a community café and nursery.
Cllr Coxshall said: “A new community hub in Aveley has been long discussed so I’m pleased to be taking this report to the meeting next week to keep the project moving ahead.
“There has been extensive public consultation – importantly, involving the Aveley Village Community Forum in discussions from the beginning.
“I’m very pleased that the planned works have taken into consideration and number of needs in the local area and have created – I believe – a modern, purpose-led building which the local community will really benefit from.
“What’s more, 50% of the funding for the project will be sourced from Section 106 funds.”
The Section 106 money was agreed as part of recent planning approvals for new housing development in Aveley and has to be used to provide new community facilities in the town.
The next steps of the project include completing the technical design, amending the business case after which cabinet will be asked to agree the tender for building works to begin.
