A PROPOSAL for Thurrock Council to work closer together with six other councils was recommended by the Conservative-run Thurrock Council Cabinet.
The South Essex 2050 proposal is set to allow Thurrock, Basildon, Brentwood, Castle Point, Rochford, Southend and Essex to speak as “one voice”.
The leader of the council stressed on several occasions that this did not mean a loss of power for Thurrock nor was it a merger.

I was never in favour of going Unitary. We became the poor borough of Essex.
Ain’t Barking joining the club?.
Barking is in the club.
This is a merger..pure and simple. Won’t be good and end in us losing out. On the upside it may well bring some competence to The London Borough of Thurrock.
