ESSEX Police are investigating the attempted murder of a 64-year-old man in Purfleet and are appealing for witnesses.
Shortly before 8.30pm yesterday evening, Tuesday, January 16, the victim was walking his dog along London Road, when two men approached him.
One of the men stabbed the 64-year-old in the chest with a knife.
He was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
The victim described the two men as wearing dark clothing and bandanas which covered their faces.
Chief Inspector Lewis Basford said: “We believed this to be an isolated incident, however extra officer patrols have been put in place in the area and we advise people to remain vigilant.
“We would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident and saw men matching these descriptions.”

Police officers have taped off an area near to the Royal Hotel by the Thames.
Essex Police has told YT that they will be issuing a statement as soon as possible.
