MORE than 100 nominations for the 2018 Thurrock Civic Awards have been received.
42 finalists from nominations made across the nine categories have been shortlisted and revealed ahead of next month’s black tie event.
Thurrock Civic Awards acknowledges those who have made a special contribution to our borough and some of the categories included sports, volunteering and the environment.
Local people and organisations who have dedicated their time and efforts to make a positive contribution to the borough will be celebrated. Previous winners include Demus Lee who won the very special Mayor’s award for lifetime achievement for his constant campaigning, contribution and dedication to the borough. Demus has also been part of the judging panel this year.
The awards are sponsored by organisations and businesses located or connected to Thurrock. The council are excited that Rockfire Capital Limited has agreed to be this year’s main sponsor.
Mayor of Thurrock, Cllr Tunde Ojetola said: “This is a great way to celebrate our fantastic local people – congratulations to all the Civic Awards 2018 nominees and finalists.
“This is a great achievement and the number of nominations shows the vast amount of support received to help acknowledge those who may otherwise have gone unrewarded”.
The event will be held on Friday 23 February at The Civic Hall and hosted by Danny Crates – Orsett-born, former Paralympic European and World Champion.
