WHEN Thurrock Ukip released a press release to say that they were leaving Ukip and rebranding as the Thurrock Independents, a cursory check of the Thurrock Council website saw all seventeen councillors still described as UKIP.
At a meeting of the full council on Wednesday night, the leader of the Thurrock Labour, cllr Oliver Gerrish, asked the council’s monitoring officer, what was their understanding of the situation?

At the time of publication, they are still being described as Ukip.
Being in Thurrock Ukip appears to be like Hotel California: “You can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave.”
