A former dog grooming student at South Essex College is a cut above the rest after winning a national competition.
Paige Kelly from Grays entered the Pure Breed Open Class category at The Grooming Show in Coventry and came in first place with perfectly pampered pooch, Pip.
The 20-year-old had to bathe, brush and groom Shih Tzu Pip to remove matted fur and knots before her efforts were judged by dog grooming experts.
The competition win comes after she set up her own dog grooming company, Paige’s Dog Grooming, since completing her course at the College’s Basildon campus.
Paige said she was over the moon to have won, especially since Pip belongs to one of her regular clients.
She said: “Going from not winning at all, to being placed and getting first was a bit of a shock to me. I will definitely be entering more competitions, I enjoy them and it is a good way to keep clients up-to-date and they like their dogs being used.
“The tutors at the College were lovely and taught me everything I needed to know about dog grooming to allow me to set up my own company and succeed in the competition.”
