Grays band Bilk starting to create waves

A Music student from South Essex College is hoping to hit the big time with his band, BILK.

Luke Hare, 18, studies Level 3 Music Performance at the College’s Southend Campus. He is the bass player in BILK whose songs are being played on BBC Radio 1 and Radio X.

Singles ‘Give Up’ and ‘Spiked’ are receiving a lot of air play on national radio stations, they’re also available on Spotify and Apple Music.

BILK are a three piece indie collective with rap influences, they draw inspiration from acts such as Arctic Monkeys, The Streets and Eminem.

Luke, from Grays, said: “The band is getting a lot of exposure at the moment and I really hope it takes off. We’re playing loads of support gigs around the country so watch this space.”

He added: “The Music courses at the College are great and give young musicians the opportunity to gain performance experience. The Lecturers are so supportive and help you to boost your creativity.”

Michael Webster, Music Coordinator at the College, said: “It’s fantastic when we see our students begin to make waves in the music industry. We hope that the continued support and guidance we give Luke will help him to achieve his goals.”
