A MAN who spent Christmas in police cells appeared before Basildon Crown Court on Friday, June 1 to face sentencing.
Serge Mbuyi, 31, of Galey Green, was arrested and charged with criminal damage, possession of an offensive weapon and affray.
This followed his arrest in connection with an incident which took place in the early hours of Saturday, December 23, 2017.
A spokesperson said: “We had been called at 2.15am, with reports of a man threatening people with a knife in Galey Green, South Ockendon.
He then appeared before magistrates in Chelmsford on Boxing Day, December 26.
Mbuyi was remanded in custody to appear at Basildon Crown Court on January 23 after pleading not guilty to the charges.
On April 27 he changed his plea and admitted assault and criminal damage.
Mbuyi has been issued with a 12-month community order for each count, to run concurrently. He will also have to attend a programme, aimed at reducing the risk of re-offending. A destruction order has also been granted for the knife.
Pc Andrew Kirkby, who led the investigation, said: “These charges were brought after Mbuyi acted in a very threatening manner towards two of his neighbours.
“His behaviour and anger directed towards them was uncalled for and Essex Police will not tolerate this conduct.
“We will always seek to put serious offenders before the court for justice to be served.”
