Thurrock Swimmers Win Regional Open Water

SWIMMERS from Thurrock Swimming Club participated in this year’s East Region Open Water event held in Norwich.

The events ranged from a 1km swim to 5km.

Jasmine Verlander and Caitlin Murray competed in the 1km novice event as it was the first time they had swum open water. Jasmine had a great start and finished strong coming 1st in the 11-12 age group in Essex and also won Regional gold.

Caitlin also had a great swim finishing 4th in the county for the 13-15 age group.

In the 2km event, Bryony Edgings, Eleanor Lennon, James Edgings and Jenson Hurrell competed.

In the boy’s event, both James and Jenson started well. James came out 4th overall but finished top 15/16 year old male swimmer in Essex and also won the Regional title.

After a great start, Jenson kept up with the pace and he finished 3rd in the 12/13 age group in Essex and finished 8th in the Region and 3rd in Essex.

In the girls event, Bryony finished strong coming 4th in Essex. Eleanor swam really well beating her target time by 4 minutes
