AT the beginning of every Thurrock Council meeting, a list of those who fell, one hundreds years ago to the month, is read out.

This is done after a campaign involving South Ockendon resident and campaigner, Mr Peter Perrin.

A few months ago, Mr Perrin highlighted the tragic case of Pte Howarth, who left these shores to fight in the Great War and retuned a 5 stone shell of a man.

Mr Perrin tracked down his grave in West Thurrock.

Mr Perrin attended Wednesday nights council meeting at Thurrock Council in order to implore the council to run a special ceremony for Pte Howarth when we mark the centenary of the end of the Great War.

  1. And what did these brave men fight for…A town riddled with scum bags, druggies, gangs and and unsafe community for the good people to live.

    How sad!
