Could you be a Healthy Walks Leader?
THURROCK Council is on the lookout for volunteers to help lead its newly launched Healthy Walks programme.
The council’s Healthy Walks programme aims to bring together people from across the community to promote the benefits of walking and support them in leading a healthy, active lifestyle.
The role of a Healthy Walks Leader would involve leading a series of 30 minute walking sessions each week for residents in and around Thurrock.
Volunteers will be able to commit to leading as many walking sessions a week as they are comfortable with, and will receive full training for the role prior to starting.
To undertake the role volunteers will need to have a shared love of walking and meeting new people, and to feel confident leading walks in a safe and responsible way.
Cllr James Halden, Portfolio Holder for Education and Health, said: “The Healthy Walks programme is a great way for residents to embrace a healthy lifestyle whilst exploring the local area and what Thurrock has to offer.
“I encourage anyone who enjoys the outdoors, has a passion for walking and being active and loves to meet new people to come forward as volunteers and get involved.”
