Football: Aveley win through in Trophy

FA Trophy Preliminary Round

Aveley 3 v 1 Tooting and Mitcham

AVELEY made a flying start to Saturday’s Buildbase FA Trophy Extra Preliminary tie at Parkside, taking the lead in the first minute when Alex Akrofi set up Tom Richardson who chipped keeper Morgan Campbell.

Minutes later the Millers almost had a second but Akrofi’s header was tipped over the bar by Morgan’s finger-tips.

The first 20 minutes were dominated by Aveley but Tooting started to get into the game and keeper David Hughes was called into action a couple of times.
But the lead was extended just before the half hour when Akrofi controlled the ball and curled it into the right hand corner.

It might have been three moments later but Richardson’s clip past the keeper grazed the crossbar – and then Andy Freema’s effort was tipped wide by Morgan.

Millers made a bright start to the second half and Akrofi had the ball in the net on 55 minutes but it was ruled out for offside.

A third goal did count four minutes later though when Freeman’s header was clipped home by Richardson. Soon after he went close to a hat-trick but his effort went just over the bar.

Dominic Morgan-Griffiths pulled one back for the visitors with 25 minutes to go, but it did little to change the tempo of the game and Aveley continued to dominate and comfortably saw out the tie.
