St Lukes: The perfect weather for a perfect walk

The perfect weather for a perfect walk ! ….

LAST Sunday over 200 people pulled on their walking shoes to raise funds for St. Luke’s Hospice by walking either 5 or 10 miles through the beautiful Langdon Hills country side.

The first 5 miles took participants from the Hospice in Nethermayne to their satellite centre ‘St Luke’s House’ in Corringham where they were greeted with a well-deserved afternoon cream tea. Some then returned to the Hospice by mini-bus whilst more intrepid walkers returned to the Hospice on foot – covering a total distance of 10 miles.

Kerry Chambers, Fundraiser at St. Luke’s and event organiser said ‘’We were blessed with perfect walking weather and a fantastic group of supporters, who I cannot thank enough! They were truly all amazing. This is the second year of the Hospice holding this event and many of the participants who had entered last year encouraged friends and family members to join them at this year’s event. I am also very grateful to the many volunteers who helped, without them this event simply couldn’t have taken place. I am so delighted with how the day went and the amount raised for the Hospice’’

Kerry added ‘’St. Luke’s Hospice needs to raise £15,207 a day to keep all our services running, events such as this are vital in helping generate much needed income – last year we raised just over £7,000 at this event – with more people taking part this year than last we are keeping our fingers crossed that we have done even better this year – we won’t know the result until all participants have brought in their sponsorship monies’’
