PURFLEET-based Ensign Bus is celebrating having been crowned Top Independent Operator at the UK Bus Awards held in London today.
The company took gold fighting off competition from across the country. They also won bronze in the Bus Operator of the Year category which recognises the ‘best in show’ from winners across the board.
The Top Independent Operator Award, sponsored by Omnibus, recognises bus companies that provide an outstanding service and are truly committed to their customers and employees.
The company runs an impressive operation and is always looking at new ways to improve its service, this has led to continuous passenger growth. The judges praised the company’s ability to maximise commercial opportunities.
These include working with Amazon to help get its 2,000 employees to a new distribution depot, and specific vehicles running for almost 100 days in partnership with Tilbury Cruise Terminal.

Silver was awarded to Prentice Coaches, a bus and coach operator based in Haddington, the county town of East Lothian in Scotland. Bronze went to Scarlet Band Bus and Coach based in West Cornforth, County Durham.
