Grays Beachcombers have a busy weekend

Report by Steve Catchpole

ONCE again the weather was very kind and the 14 of us collected another 37 sacks of rubbish including 330 plastic single use drinks bottles. All collected from the foreshore between the cruise terminal and the old power station at Tilbury.

This time we were supported by volunteers from Bureau Veritas whose offices are in London. One of their group commented that “it was certainly an insight into the problem of litter pollution when we found that large amount of waste in one small area”.

Do you want to get involved, there’s just one last opportunity this year. We will be meeting at the Rainham RSPB centre carpark RM19 1SZ at 10:30 until 13:00 on the 19th December.

If you can’t make it next Wednesday, there will still be plenty of rubbish and opportunities to pick it in 2019.

Sunday 6th January– meeting at Grays Yacht Club at 10:30 to 12:00 followed by free refreshments in the café. This is the Grays Beachcombers regular monthly pick.

Saturday 19th January – meeting at Concrete Barges, Rainham RM13 9YQ at 10:30 until 13:30.

Sunday 3rd February– meeting at Grays Yacht Club at 10:30 to 12:00 followed by free refreshments in the café. This is the Grays Beachcombers regular monthly pick.

It is NOT a requirement to pre-book any of the events listed above, but feel free to email litterpickingsteve@outlook.com if you wish to know more.
